Profile
James Joyce has been part of Stephen Avenue since 1997, bringing the character of a traditional Irish pub into one of downtown Calgary’s historic bank buildings.
The pub occupies the historic Old Molson Bank Building at 114 8th Avenue SW, giving its handcrafted Irish-inspired interior an architectural setting with genuine downtown history. A carefully poured Guinness, Irish whiskey and comforting pub fare—including favourites such as Stout Pie—anchor the experience.
An Irish Pub with Calgary History
Open daily from late morning into the night, James Joyce functions as a gathering place for lunch, after-work pints, live entertainment and celebrations. Its long presence on the Avenue has made it part of the rhythm of the downtown core rather than simply another themed pub.
A Stephen Avenue Institution
James Joyce combines two traditions in one address: the convivial atmosphere of an Irish public house and the heritage character that makes Stephen Avenue one of Calgary’s most distinctive streets.
