Profile
The Bank of Nova Scotia Building is a grand Beaux-Arts landmark located on Stephen Avenue, originally constructed in 1930 as a major downtown financial institution. Its impressive façade features classical columns, ornate stonework, and a dignified architectural presence that reflects Calgary’s early commercial prosperity.
Today, the building has been beautifully repurposed as The Bank & Baron Pub, preserving its historic interior and architectural character while offering a modern social atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy a unique dining and nightlife experience inside a restored heritage bank — complete with soaring ceilings, original detailing, and rich history.
This seamless blend of past and present makes it one of Stephen Avenue’s most memorable and photogenic destinations.

1 Review on “Bank & Baron (The Bank of Nova Scotia Building)”
I loved stopping by the Bank of Nova Scotia Building (Bank & Baron) during my walk through downtown Calgary. The architecture is beautiful and really stands out among the city streets, and it felt like a perfect snapshot of Calgary’s history and charm. It’s in such a great spot—easy to explore nearby shops and restaurants right after. Definitely worth a quick visit if you’re in the area!
